I got my windows 7 order on 10/21 at 9pm PST. Yes, I got it earlier than the release date, a couple of hours earlier, but still early =). Cheap too! Since I’m a student, I only paid $30 for the OS. Hooray for student discounts!
Anyways, I was planning to install it right when I received the download link, but when I ran the windows advisor, it pretty much told me that my netbook graphics card won’t be able to support aero. I was disappointed, but not surprised. I mean, it’s to be expected that a netbook would have shitty specs since it’s cheap. I contemplated on selling Windows 7 or building a new machine. I wasn’t going to use it on my other machine/desktop since I didn’t want to reinstall and configure everything (no easy upgrade from XP to Windows 7. MS forces you to do a clean install).
So, this morning I was reading articles online about windows 7 and saw that one of the writers did a dual boot from XP and Windows 7 and I decided to do the same!
The install was very easy and uneventful, surprisingly. No freezes. It didn’t give me any trouble at all. It actually took longer for me to backup my files, partition the drive, and create an ISO bootable disc on a flash drive. Netbooks don’t have DVD drives and the student copy is an online deal that didn’t come with a disc so I had to create a bootable disc on a usb flash drive.
Anyways, I am blogging using Windows 7! I have yet to play with the features of the new OS, but so far, I am liking what I’m seeing so far! New electronics/technology always make me happy. Yay for new toys!
On the other hand, this is when I miss Uriel the most. Because I know he would appreciate new technology. I miss geeking out with him. I wish I can call him and share my excitement about Windows 7. I miss Uriel =(
