It’s been a while since I’ve last been to Mori sushi. I’ve been there at least 5 times. Come to think of it, I believe the last time I was there was with Uriel. Last night, the twin and I went to Mori sushi. It was her first time there, and she was not disappointed. Mori, I can say, is one of the best sushi places in the US. It’s because of Mori that I became a sushi snob. Yes, I’m proud to say, that I am a sushi snob.
We were seated at the same place at the bar where Uriel and I sat. I kind of hate that I will always remember Uriel whenever I’m at Mori, but whatever. It is what it is. This time we didn’t get Mori as our chef, but it’s okay, we got Susubu who was quite good and entertaining
We ate a LOT. We got the omakase, of course. And we got 18 different dishes/fish and dessert. It was fishgasmic! Our bill ended up to around $330 for two people, with tip. Which is not bad for a great meal. And Mori has a Michelin star
Here’s the list of courses we had:
1)Tofu with cherry tomatoes, shiso leaf, balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil. The tofu was to die for. I mean, this tofu is so soft and yummy, not like those ones you buy from store. It’s specially made.
2) Japanese vegetable medley with cold seaweed soup. Japanese baby eggplant topped with mustard. Another cut of the eggplant with miso, and another one with a yellow sauce, which I totally forgot what it’s called. And two small sides of japanese radish and some pink veggy.
3) Fish broth soup with charred eggplant. Tasty.
4) Tuna carpaccio with fresh wasabi, green onions, caramelized onions and pine nuts. TO DIE FOR!
5) Tempura abalone with chilli pepper and sea salt from the Philippines. YUMMY
And the sushi course starts (this is not in order because I didn’t start taking notes until after. Also I wanted to put the Japanese name, but forgot about some of them) All sushi were served with fresh wasabi. You’ve never had wasabi unless you tried fresh wasabi:
6) Thai red snapper. DIVINE
7) Baby fluke – Susubu said it comes from Halibut family. so good!
Japanese squid. My sister raved about this one. She’s never had squid that’s so soft and not chewy
9) Spanish mackarel, slightly charred on one side. Again, heavenly
10) Blue fin toro. This literally melted in my mouth. I wanted more! OMG, it’s like butter
11) Kamatsu (sp?) – it’s baby barracuda.
12) Fresh octopus with yuzu. Yuzu is the shiz.
13) Birugay (sp?) – giant clam with yuzu and sea salt
14) Dashi Ikura – cured salmon egg with yuzu. Heaven!
15) Santa Barbara UNI. So fresh and so yummy! I wanted more!
16) Sea eel, not freshwater eel. But sea eel. It was good.
17) Shiso leaf and ume roll wrapped in this special seaweed from the southern prefecture. Apparently, they only make this seaweed once a year and it’s ordered directly from Japan. It was good seaweed.
18) Tamago.
19) Dessert: fresh fruit and black sesame ice cream. The fruits were delectable and sweet. The black sesame ice cream was great as well.
$330 for all that food? I think it’s WAY worth it. It’s actually pretty cheap if you think about it. And you get the best cut of fish from one of the best sushi chefs in the nation. All in all, a great night. I’m still full from last night, haha. I can’t wait to try Go’s Mart.
Side note: I know I talk about Uriel a lot on this blog. Well, it’s the only place I can talk about him really. I don’t talk to anyone about him anymore. So this is my outlet. If you have a problem with that, then don’t read. It’s my blog. I know he might not like it, but this is the only place I can sort out my feelings. It’s been tough, but this is one of my therapy. Don’t judge. Also, just because I talk about him here, doesn’t mean I have nothing else to do but think about him. This blog DOES NOT represent 100% of my life. It only counts as 5-10% of what I do in real life.
